New Realities: The XR Podcast – Episode 10 In Augmented Reality art can conquer public space

New Realities is a joint podcast project of 1E9 and the XR HUB Bavaria in which we present new realities – i.e. projects, ideas, concepts and products in virtual, augmented and mixed reality. Or in short: in Extended Reality.
And because we are currently experiencing a completely different kind of “new reality” with the Corona Crisis, the first episodes of this podcast will focus on how we can use XR technologies to better deal with curfews and contact bans.

You can listen and subscribe to the podcast at PodigeeSpotifyDeezer und bei Apple Music.

Episode 10 In Augmented Reality art can conquer public space

Listening time: 33 minutes

You’re strolling across the Marienplatz in Munich… or the main market square in Nuremberg… or standing in Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate – and suddenly a cyclops is standing in front of you and tells you in an elevator pitch how it actually imagines the future of mankind. This is exactly the concept of the work “Realm”, with which the artist Niko Abramidis takes part in the New Realities competition. You can read about this and also about Niko’s work in general in episode 10 of the podcast.

One gallery has described Niko’s work as follows: “Niko Abramidis &NE opens up a diverse spectrum in his art, which deals with economic structures and visions of the future. In his drawings, paintings, sculptures and spatial installations, the artist creates parallel universes in which he creates fictitious corporate identities and appropriates forms of expression from the financial economy”.
